BCS business analysis certification and training

The most widely-recognised business analyst certifications in the UK are awarded by the BCS, the chartered institute for IT. A BCS business analysis certification on your CV indicates the knowledge, experience and skills you can bring to the role. To an employer, a business analyst qualification is an important objective measure and it gives them confidence in your ability.

TCC has been delivering business analysis training courses since 1981. In 2001, our team worked with the BCS to create their certifications for business analysts. The same team from TCC uses this deep understanding to continually improve our unrivalled accredited training courses to give you the best chance of achieving BCS business analyst certification and enjoying success as a BA.

What business analysis certification is available from the BCS?

BCS professional certification is available in the core areas of business analysis, as well in more specialist subjects. The modular approach to certification and skill development means that you can choose the areas of business analysis you want to study – although some subjects are required to achieve the associated diplomas. There are 15 individual certificates, targeted at 4 different levels of expertise:

  • Foundation

  • Practitioner

  • Professional

  • Consultant and expert

This provides a clear development path for business analysts throughout their career.

Where to start

For those new to business analysis, or those who do not hold any BCS certifications, the most common route is to study for the BCS diploma in business analysis.

To be awarded the BCS diploma in business analysis you must first successfully complete four certification modules (one foundation and three practitioner) which are part of the scheme. Once you have passed the individual certificate examinations, you can sit an oral examination to gain this higher level business analysis qualification.

Choose from:

BCS business analysis courses are available that lead to the following foundation level certificates

  • Foundation certificate in commercial awareness

Foundation level certificates in business analysis are ideal for those new to the profession and provide an introduction and broad coverage of a specific area of the subject. The breadth of knowledge and insight gained at this foundation level, can then be used to underpin further study.

What is the exam format?

Foundation level certification is awarded on the successful completion of a one hour multiple-choice examination consisting of 40 questions. The BCS foundation exam pass mark is 65% (26 out of 40).
